We currently have a team of 12 people, the majority of whom are Odoo consultants and developers. Over the last three years, we have grown our portfolio to 40 clients in 15 countries, including Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Ghana. Our clients are active in agriculture, renewable energy, circular economy, e-mobility, health, and other sectors.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Finance Manager to join our team.

Here's what we're hoping to find in you

Our ideal candidate is a self-starter with at least 5 years of experience as a (senior) Accountant or Finance Manager. 

This is a one-person job and a manager-of-one position.

You are responsible for booking accounting transactions (don’t worry, we don’t have that many) and automating everything that can be automated. 

You manage the full accounts of our two entities in the Netherlands and Kenya (and more later) and actively advise company management on company performance and areas of improvement. 

You have experience in the services industry, and terms such as billability, work in progress, and hourly billing are familiar. You are energetic, want to learn and grow, and have strong communication skills.

Hands-on experience: We are looking for a finance manager with ample experience in the services (consulting) industry.

Attention to detail: Details matter. A lot. And you make sure that they are covered. You can always break down your BS and know the rationale of every transaction. And your books always match.

Problem-solving spirit: You love navigating accounting tasks, devising innovative solutions, and addressing compliance hurdles. And automation, you love automation.

Tax expertise: A deep understanding of tax laws and regulations in Kenya and/or the Netherlands to ensure accurate and compliant financial operations. At least one country is required; you will learn the other.

Clear communication: You can translate complex financial lingo into normal people’s language, but you also speak the language of the auditors, regulators, and others.

Ethical integrity: This is self-explanatory. If not, there are a lot of other jobs out there.

Interpersonal skills: Build strong relationships with customers, vendors, partners, colleagues, and regulatory stakeholders.

Technology proficiency: You love using technology to make your (work) life easier. You either already know Odoo (and love it) or will be in for a real treat. If something can be automated, you find a way to automate it.

  • You manage the financial accounts for Advance Insight Kenya Ltd and Advance Insight BV (The Netherlands) with full regulatory compliance.
  • Make your job as automatic as possible by creating auto-reconciliation flows, streamlining invoicing, automating depreciation, etc.
  • You manage the processing and posting of all transactions after automation, including vendor bills, customer invoices, payroll, etc., and follow up on accounts payable and receivables within Odoo.
  • You manage our bank accounts and ensure accurate recording of transactions (again, automation is key)
  • Supervise payroll processing and manage timely and accurate salary payments and compliance. Don’t worry; we have tools for this.
  • Prepare invoicing to customers and conduct follow-up activities to ensure timely payments. Actively hunt for invoicing opportunities in close cooperation with the consultants and the management team.
  • You actively manage our cash flow so we don’t run out of cash, and inform management if and when necessary.
  • Prepare the month-end and year-end closing processes, adhering to deadlines and accuracy.
  • Create reports for the team and management team, proactively share information for better decision making.
  • Conduct project finance accounting, including budgeting, cost tracking, and financial reporting, ensuring accurate allocation of funds and adherence to project timelines and financial objectives.
  • Manage general ledger activities and maintain the account chart, confirming consistent financial transaction recording.
  • Prepare and file various tax and statutory returns and reports while adhering to regulatory guidelines for Kenya & the Netherlands.
  • You serve as the primary point of contact for financial inquiries and audit follow-up, providing prompt and comprehensive responses.
  • Stay updated on the latest tax laws and regulations, analysing their implications for the organisation's financial activities.
  • Keep the managers informed about significant changes in laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Learn Odoo’s finance and accounting features in and out. Maybe you can also jump in as a consultant when needed.

Must Have

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or an equivalent qualification from a recognised institution is required.
  • A Registered Accountant (RA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), certified Chartered Accountant (ACCA), or equivalent qualification from a recognised institution is nice but not required. Experience is more important.
  • At least 5 years’ experience working as a (senior) accountant or finance manager.
  • Experienced and skilled in Microsoft Excel
  • Knowledge of Kenyan and/or Dutch tax laws and regulations (at least one of the two)
  • Familiarity with corporate tax, value-added tax (VAT), income tax, and other relevant tax laws.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory.

Nice to have

  • Experience working with Odoo is a plus

What we offer

We offer a full-time position at our lovely office in Lavington, Nairobi. Although you will work in Nairobi, you will also have colleagues from the Netherlands, Portugal, and Lithuania. 

You get a lot of freedom to organise the work the way you want, including working from home for one or two days a week, as long as the work gets done. There is ample room for self-improvement, learning, and initiative. 

We offer a competitive salary, ranging between €2,000 €3,000, with a €3,000, with pension contribution, holiday pay, medical insurance, and other benefits.
